November 7, 2015 Good News/Bad News

November 7, 2015 - 2:21 pm - Posted by Brenda Matthews

(Once again, I’d encourage you to read this at brendamatthews.missynew.ws where it looks much better)

The good news is that the bone is healing. The bad news is that I have another 3 weeks with the cast. The good news is that I can start putting some weight on it, but still using the crutches. Please continue to pray for complete healing.

This is “the dog”. The good news is that he’s very friendly and intelligent and he would check up on me throughout the day (you can see him at my window). The bad news is that he is an extremely exuberant puppy which makes him a threat to someone on crutches. More good news is that the Thiessens have returned. The bad news is that I wasn’t able to give them their keys and go home to my own apartment.

It was impossible for me to clean up after the dog and I couldn’t play with him like before, so Anthony tried to get kids from their sports ministry to help while they were in Canada. One boy, Eduardo, came with his whole family – Martín, Alicia, Eduardo and Fernando. They all came back the second day, but the next days our schedules didn’t work. When I called Alicia the 5th day, I was shocked to learn that Martín had been hit by a car that morning riding his bike to work and had just died. If it weren’t for the fracture, I probably would never have met the family or had an opportunity to minister to them in their grief. Please pray for an opportunity to share the Good News with them, or that I’ve been a bridge for the Thiessens to be able to do it. The Lord is also using the fracture to teach me (again!) that I need to depend on Him and not be so independent and self-sufficient. God is good… all the time. Romans 8:28 is a promise for all believers: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (NIV)

As I mentioned last time, more good news is that God has answered our prayers about an apartment! (Top right-hand corner of this new building) Due of the fracture, the possession date was changed from the 1st to the 15th, but the bad news is that I probably won’t be able to move in until later because dealing with 3 flights of stairs alone on crutches isn’t prudent. I love the big area for having a cell group, meetings and parties! The view from the back balcony isn’t great, but if you look hard, from the front balcony you can see the water at the horizon.

After the good news from the doctor, I went to the apartment to take measurements and get the documentation to solicit the utilities. Then I started furniture shopping. Please pray that the Lord direct me quickly to find exactly what He knows I’ll need there and at good prices. Here on the peninsula just about everything is imported from the mainland, so costs are high.

I can’t be out looking for new birds, but I continue to enjoy God’s creation. The good news from these photos is that I’ve only seen one rat (nowhere close to home!) and that the 4 mice I’ve seen were all dead ones the dog left for me. Have you ever seen a stick insect before? Or an owlfly? Or a robberfly? I’m learning so many things!

Glad to be here sharing the Good News of the Gospel!
