May 16, 2011 Water and the Word

May 18, 2011 - 9:13 pm - Posted by Brenda Matthews

I did write this May 16th, but it’s taken a while to get it published…

Since I returned in January, there have been problems in the neighbourhood with the water pressure. It has been so low that I usually only got a dribble when there was water and rarely was there water after 8:30 pm until the morning. There was enough pressure to fill the water tank on the roof twice, but you can imagine how quickly that went down with all the laundry piling up. Most of the time, there wasn’t a drop of water on the roof (where the washing machine is located), and nothing going into the tank. Here’s what I mean by a dribble:

Some days it was a little better, and occasionally there were one to three days of almost normal water. I did let the landlord know and I asked several people to pray about the situation. Yesterday the owner installed a water pump, so as long as there is water in the apt., water could be pumped into the water tank. Here’s the installation and water tank on the roof:

After four months of bucket-baths, I’m thrilled to have the shower working again! And now that there is water, I spent ALL day doing laundry.

On a more spiritual note, it was great to have Gabriel Agostini here teaching a course on Eschatology. This was part of a series of theological education by extension courses offered in the day for the students and in the evenings for the whole church. I met the Agostinis when we served together in Caracas, so it was fun to be working together again and to have a chance to visit.

Wednesday I’ll be starting to teach the new series on the Gifts of the Spirit and Fridays I lead a small group where we’re studying biblical financial principles. Please pray for the Word of God to penetrate the minds and hearts of all of us in these ministries.

Grateful, as always, for your prayers,

Brenda
